5 Study Tips to Improve Your SAT Weaknesses
Youââ¬â¢re a pro at one section of the SAT, but you just canââ¬â¢t seem to nudge your score up in the other. à How can you develop skills to master weak areas? Read on for five tips for improving your SAT weaknesses. You canââ¬â¢t measure improvement or hone weak areas if you donââ¬â¢t know where youââ¬â¢re starting. Take a diagnostic test to find out where you are. ââ¬â¢s diagnostic test identifies specific strengths and weaknesses within each skill set and area the test measures. The PSAT can also give you an early indication of where you should focus your efforts. When you receive your score report, youââ¬â¢ll not only be able to view your overall scores for each section, but youââ¬â¢ll also see sub-scores for individual skills: Command of Evidence, Words in Context, Expression of Ideas, Standard English Conventions, Heart of Algebra, Problem Solving and Data Analysis, and Passport to Advanced Math. That way, youââ¬â¢ll be able to know if, say, problem solving was the specific weakness that contributed to a lower score in the Math section, and recognize that thatââ¬â¢s where you should focus your attention. To better understand your PSAT scores, read What Does My PSAT Score Mean? . Remember that the PSAT doesnââ¬â¢t necessarily correlate to your future performance on the SAT. Youââ¬â¢ll take more classes and expand your breadth of knowledge before you take the SAT; the PSAT can serve as an indication of what you should aim to improve before the actual test. Taking a diagnostic test early gives you time to prepare and retake the test if you need to. As you take more practice tests, youââ¬â¢ll become more familiar with the layout of the test. If you start preparing later, some of the aspects and feature of the test might trip you up, since you wonââ¬â¢t be as used to them. Starting early means youââ¬â¢ll gain the ability to work within time constraints, understand the structure, and become familiar with the skills you need to master to conquer individual sections. For instance, the Reading section requires strong critical thinking skills, vocabulary, and ability to use context clues to determine the meaning of a passage. As you read more passages on practice tests, youââ¬â¢ll become adept at knowing how to deconstruct the text and pulling out important information. Youââ¬â¢ll also gain insight into your own habits and the mistakes you routinely make. When practicing and scoring, pay attention to the types of questions you routinely get wrong. For instance, perhaps youââ¬â¢re not reading word problems on the Math section carefully enough. Missing key words because youââ¬â¢re rushing can mean the difference between a correct and incorrect answer. After enough practice, youââ¬â¢ll know what mistakes to be on the lookout for as you check your work. Our students see an average increase of 250 points on their SAT scores. Once you know your weak areas, develop creative ways to hone your skills. For example, using apps are a great way to practice, and you can focus on specific types of questions. Khan Academy, Daily Practice from College Board, and The Official SAT Question of the Day are some great apps to use. Are you having trouble with particular math problems and wasting time flipping back and forth to the formulas page? Institute a ââ¬Å"formula of the dayâ⬠policy, focusing on a specific formula to memorize each day. Or, if vocabulary is an issue, have a ââ¬Å"word of the dayâ⬠to memorize. Study with friendsââ¬âif youââ¬â¢re each stronger in different areas, you can share strategies to help each other master weaker areas. Time management is key to doing well on the SAT. Understanding the components of the test and how much time youââ¬â¢re allotted for each part will help you prepare. Components include: Reading: 52 multiple-choice questions, 65 minutes. Writing and Language: 44 multiple-choice questions, 25 minutes Mathââ¬âNo Calculator: 15 multiple-choice questions, 25 minutes Mathââ¬âWith Calculator section: 55 minutes, 30 multiple-choice questions and 8 grid-in questions Tip: Break down your time as follows For more tips on planning out how much time to spend on each section on the SAT, check out How to Pace Yourself on Every Section of the SAT. When studying, simulate this testing environment at least a few times so you can practice working within the time constraints. Tutors can help you develop competencies in weaker areas. Since they know the test, they know what itââ¬â¢s measuringââ¬âand what you need to do to improve. They can also provide resources and materials such as practice tests to help you study.

INTRODUCTION, ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION and CONCLUSIONS AND Essay
INTRODUCTION, ANALYSIS AND DISCUSSION and CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS - Essay Example It gives a clearly structure for the enquiry and help me to stay within a defined set of limits. This methodology provides the scheme for sampling, data collection, data analysis and explanation of findings for the research. For the sake of providing the best understanding, it will be appropriate to summarize important elements of the research to make the research methodology meaningful. Silverman, (2004) states that qualitative methods are meant to provide an observation of social phenomenon from a close analysis of facts and trends with a critical review of information to provide an opinion by me This means that qualitative research methods are mainly concerned with the assessment of social events with a view of making critical conclusion . However, Marshall and Rossman (2010) identify qualitative research as a field of enquiry that cuts across disciplines and fields and examines key concepts. Which means it is theoretical and does not really seem to be related to figures. On the other hand quantitative research focuses on figures and trends to provide ideas from experimental studies (Silverman, 2004). This is different from qualitative research which is more theories and ideas. In this research, the primary approach would be more theoretical, making it more of a qualitative research. It would examine patterns and trends in peoples perception towards Art Education at the secondary school level in both Iraq and the UK. Within the findings there would be some elements of statistical analysis to provide a pattern and tone that is quantitative in nature. Sampling is an important element for the study of a representative body to acquire information about a subject that can be generalised over a wider population (Dodds, 2011). In order to understand each of the four objectives, there will be the need to study a carefully selected proportion of the population to come up with findings that would be

Opinion Editorial (Op Ed article) on how oil production affects the Essay
Opinion Editorial (Op Ed article) on how oil production affects the society behavoirs and manners in the producer contry - in ku - Essay Example Kuwaitisââ¬â¢ yearly income per individual is around $40,000 to more than $100,000, which is considered high. Citizens do not worry about taxes, employment, health care, and education. People can afford to not work and this has adverse effects on our values and behaviors. Kuwaitis expect money without working hard for it. In addition, they would rather work in public sector that can assure them high salaries with much less effort than the private sector. This weakens the private sector business in Kuwait. Mr. Mohammad Al-Sanousi, former minister of Information, said in an interview, he laid off around 600 employees who do not even come to work. He also said, they constitute a heavy burden on governmentââ¬â¢s budget. Citizens become more interested in prestigious jobs, so that Kuwait is forced to import foreign workers to fill the gap in the labor force. In the end, Kuwait will find itself with unbalanced economical situation. Certainly, there are those ambitious Kuwaitis who wo rk hard and do care about Kuwaitââ¬â¢s economy. Their efforts are not enough if the government is not doing its part.

Kate Chopins The Story of an Hour Essay -- Kate Chopin Story Hour Ess
Kate Chopin's "The Story of an Hour" In ââ¬Å"The Story of an Hourâ⬠by Kate Chopin, the author depicts how someone can be trapped in an unproductive and unsatisfying reality because of otherââ¬â¢s thoughtlessness, exploitation, and domination. When combined with the contemporary societyââ¬â¢s belief, presumably the later half of the 19th century, a further understanding of Chopinââ¬â¢s thoughts and feelings can be realized. Mrs. Louise Mallard, the victim and messenger of this story, is the image of such a person. Her relationship with her husband is so oppressive and limiting that even death is considered a reasonable means of escape. The condition of life for Mrs. Mallard is terrible, yet for some reason she doesnââ¬â¢t seem to come to the full realization until her husband death. This leads one to believe that was a common place for women to be unhappy in their marriage and have no conventional means of escape (divorce). However, Chopin doesnââ¬â¢t directly make that point. Many women are in se arch of freedom from their marriage and they believe the only way to be free is to experience the death of their husband. Mrs. Louise Mallard is a repressed married woman that has a heart condition and the reaction to her husbandââ¬â¢s presumed death is a sign that she is unhappy. After hearing the tragic news she goes up stairs and looks out an open window and notices ââ¬Å"new spring lifeâ⬠, the delicious breath of rainâ⬠, and ââ¬Å" countless sparrows tittering in the eaves.â⬠As she looks out the window among th...

Books and e-books Essay
In time of technical progress e-books are getting more popular day by day, but still most of the people prefer hard copy of books and do not support new fashion wave. Book has always been the best present for any kind of occasion, it is something that does not have an expiration date and it will always be in fashion. However, you cannot give e-book as present, of course you can send my e-mail, but you cannot put your sign and it sort of loosing meaning as a present, because you cannot touch it. On the other hand prices for e-books are lower and you can get a variety of free e-books, so everyone can enjoy literature from all of the world, but you should have special gadget to read e-books, and it is additional expanses for reading. In contrast, printed books are sort of pricy, and you cannot buy as much books as you want, as a result you are not trying to read new authors whose creations had not become bestsellers. Spending money on books is good investing, because you can collect a library and after you can leave it for next generations, as I mentioned before book is the product that does not have an expiration date. Having your library in an electronic devise it is a risky business, by reason on viruses that attacking devises every day and deleting all information from them or you can just loose an e-reader with all your book collection. Also hard copy book does not need to be charged and you can read as much as you want and wherever you want, unlike e-book is charging from electricity.

Who Was the Lost Generation
The term ââ¬Å"Lost Generationâ⬠refers to the generation of people who reached adulthood during or immediately following World War I. Demographers generally consider 1883 to 1900 as the birth year range of the generation. Key Takeaways: The Lost Generation The ââ¬Å"Lost Generationâ⬠reached adulthood during or shortly after World War I.Disillusioned by the horrors of war, they rejected the traditions of the older generation.Their struggles were characterized in the works of a group of famous American authors and poets including Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and T. S. Eliot.Common traits of the ââ¬Å"Lost Generationâ⬠included decadence, distorted visions of the ââ¬Å"American Dream,â⬠and gender confusion.ââ¬â¹ Having witnessed what they considered pointless death on such a massive scale during the war, many members of the generation rejected more traditional ideas of proper behavior, morality, and gender roles. They were considered to be ââ¬Å"lostâ⬠due to their tendency to act aimlessly, even recklessly, often focusing on the hedonistic accumulation of personal wealth. In literature, the term also refers to a group of well-known American authors and poets including Ernest Hemingway, Gertrude Stein, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and T. S. Eliot, whose works often detailed the internal struggles of the ââ¬Å"Lost Generation.â⬠à The term is believed to have come from an actual verbal exchange witnessed by novelist Gertrude Stein during which a French garage owner derisively told his young employee, ââ¬Å"You are all a lost generation.â⬠Stein repeated the phrase to her colleague and pupil Ernest Hemingway, who popularized the term when he used it as an epigraph to his classic 1926 novel The Sun Also Rises. In an interview for The Hemingway Project, Kirk Curnutt, author of several books about the Lost Generation writers suggested that they were expressing mythologized versions of their own lives. Said Curnutt: ââ¬Å"They were convinced they were the products of a generational breach, and they wanted to capture the experience of newness in the world around them. As such, they tended to write about alienation, unstable mores like drinking, divorce, sex, and different varieties of unconventional self-identities like gender-bending.â⬠Decadent Excesses Throughout their novels The Sun Also Rises and The Great Gatsby, Hemingway and Fitzgerald feature the decedent, self-indulgent lifestyles of their Lost Generation characters. In both The Great Gatsby and Tales of the Jazz Age Fitzgerald depicts anà endless stream of lavish parties hosted by the main characters. With their values so completely destroyed by the war, the expatriate American circles of friends in Hemingwayââ¬â¢s The Sun Also Rises and A Moveable Feast live shallow, hedonistic lifestyles, aimlessly roaming the world while drinking and partying. Fallacy of Great American Dream Members of the Lost Generation viewed the idea of the ââ¬Å"American Dreamâ⬠as a grand deception. This becomes a prominent theme in The Great Gatsby as the storyââ¬â¢s narrator Nick Carraway comes to realize that Gatsbyââ¬â¢s vastà fortune had been paid for with great misery. To Fitzgerald, the traditional vision of the American Dreamââ¬âthat hard work led to successââ¬âhad become corrupted. To the Lost Generation, ââ¬Å"living the dreamâ⬠was no longer about simply building a self-sufficient life, but about getting stunningly rich by any means necessary. Gender-Bending and Impotence Many young men eagerly entered World War I still believing combat to be more of a chivalrous, even glamorous pastime than an inhumane struggle for survival. However, the reality they experiencedââ¬âthe brutal slaughter of more than 18 million people, including 6 million civiliansââ¬âshattered their traditional images of masculinity and their perceptions around differing roles of men and women in society. Left impotent by his war wounds, Jake, the narrator and central character in Hemingwayââ¬â¢s The Sun Also Rises, describes how his sexually aggressive and promiscuous female lover Brett acts as the man, trying to be ââ¬Å"one of the boysâ⬠in an effort to control the lives of her sexual partners. In T.S. Eliotââ¬â¢s ironically titled poem ââ¬Å"The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock,â⬠Prufrock laments how his embarrassment from feelings of emasculation has left him sexually frustrated and unable to declare his love for the poemââ¬â¢s unnamed female recipients, referred to as ââ¬Å"they.â⬠(They will say: ââ¬ËHow his hair is growing thin!ââ¬â¢)My morning coat, my collar mounting firmly to the chin,My necktie rich and modest, but asserted by a simple pinââ¬â(They will say: ââ¬ËBut how his arms and legs are thin!ââ¬â¢) In the first chapter of Fitzgeraldââ¬â¢s The Great Gatsby, Gatsbyââ¬â¢s trophy girlfriend Daisy delivers a telling vision of her newborn daughterââ¬â¢s future. ââ¬Å"I hope sheââ¬â¢ll be a foolââ¬âthatââ¬â¢s the best thing a girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool.â⬠à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à à In a theme that still resonates in todayââ¬â¢s feminist movement, Daisyââ¬â¢s words express Fitzgeraldââ¬â¢s opinion of his generation as spawning a society that largely devalued intelligence in women. While the older generation valued women who were docile and subservient, the Lost Generation held mindless pleasure-seeking as the key to a womanââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"success.â⬠While she seemed to bemoan her generationââ¬â¢s view of gender roles, Daisy conformed to them, acting as a ââ¬Å"fun girlâ⬠to avoid the tensions of her true love for the ruthless Gatsby.à à Belief in an Impossible Future Unable or unwilling to come to grips with the horrors of warfare, many of the Lost Generation created impossibly unrealistic hopes for the future. This is expressed best in the final lines of The Great Gatsby in which narrator Nick exposed Gatsbyââ¬â¢s idealized vision of Daisy that had always prevented him from seeing her as she really was.à ââ¬Å"Gatsby believed in the green light, the orgiastic future that year by year recedes before us. It eluded us then, but thatââ¬â¢s no matterââ¬âtomorrow we will run faster, stretch out our arms fartherâ⬠¦. And one fine morningââ¬âSo we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.â⬠The ââ¬Å"green lightâ⬠in the passage is Fitzgeraldââ¬â¢s metaphor for the perfect futures we continue to believe in even while watching it get ever farther away from us. In other words, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, the Lost Generation continued to believe that ââ¬Å"one fine day,â⬠our dreams will come true. A New Lost Generation? By their very nature, all warsà create ââ¬Å"lostâ⬠survivors. While returning combat veterans have traditionally died of suicide and suffered from post-traumatic stress disorderà (PTSD) at much higher rates than the general population,à returning veterans of the Gulf War and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq are at an even higher risk. According to a 2016 report from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, an average of 20 of these veterans a day die from suicide. Could these ââ¬Å"modernâ⬠wars be creating a modern ââ¬Å"Lost Generation?â⬠With mental wounds often more serious and far more difficult to treat than physical trauma, many combat veterans struggle to reintegrate into civilian society. A report from the RAND Corporation estimates that some 20% of returning veterans either have or will develop PTSD.
